Molly Rathbun

CO-Lead instructor

Year:

About me:

Hey! Iā€™m Molly Rathbun! I am a fourth-year psychology major and ASL minor from Chesapeake, VA. I have been passionate about dance since I started competition dance at 3 years old and fell in love with Latin dancing my first year at UVA. I am involved in many organizations around grounds, but this club has to be the one I hold closest to my heart. I have found my best friends through this club and learned so much from the instructors before me.

When I joined my first year, I looked up to the instructors and was so excited to learn from them every week. The instructors are the ones who get to share their excitement for dance and make our community as welcoming as it is. I cannot wait to spread my joy for our club and Latin dance to those new and old.

As your new Lead Instructors, Cece and I have many plans for the club. This club has given us each other and now an opportunity to spread our knowledge and love. We plan to devote ourselves to this club and give back all the love we have received from it.

I am so excited to meet you all in the fall and dance with you Monday nights!

About me:

I am feeling GRATEFUL and PUMPED to run our club's Monday night lessons as your co-lead instructor this year! I am a fourth year (whoa!), and a double-major in Linguistics and Spanish (I also study Italian), which I hope takes me to a career in interpreting and translating after college. I am from Harrisonburg, Virginia, and my passions aside from Salsa Club include reading and playing piano. I have been in Salsa Club since the first semester of my first year (shoutout Iris and Sam's salsa showcase), and I was only parted from it for a brief intermission of my spring 2024 semester abroad in Spain.

I met my wonderful co-lead instructor (Molly!!!) when we were in a cha-cha showcase together (shoutout Christian and Meg), and we have choreographed together twice since then. Molly and I are excited to make Monday night lessons engaging and informational while honoring the history and individuality of the styles we teach.

I grew up dancing ballet, jazz, modern, and other styles at my high school and local dance studio. I learned some salsa and bachata in my high school dance program and Harrisonburg community, but my love and knowledge of those styles blossomed in UVA's salsa club. Now, my favorite dance styles are cha-cha and salsa, and my favorite part of the club is the wonderful people and the club's balance of learning and socializing!

Thanks y'all!

Cece
